Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Grandpa describes the very special relationship between a little girl and her grandfather. Together they share some precious moments and adventures together. The charm of Grandpa is the dialogue of the two characters which is often amusing and insightful. John Burningham cleverly uses colour illustration to depict real life, with contrasting black and white to depict the little girl's imaginative interpretation of grandpa's words.

Ages 2-5 years. Victoria MacKenzie END

Product Description

Grandpa and his granddaughter have a very close and special relationship which is described in only a few lines of dialogue between the two - showing both good and bad moments.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tale of a little girl and her Grandpa, 14 Oct 2001
By A Customer
John Burninghams award winning book Grandpa is a beutifully written and illustrated tale about the close and imaginative relationship between a little girl and her Grandpa and how this relationship enriches both their lives.

It tells of the highs and lows of the relationship showing how such closeness can overcome hurts and ultimatley how missed he is when he is no longer there.

It has now been made into an award winning animated film by the makers of "The Snowman" with the inspired voice of Peter Ustinov.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching and helps deal with bereavement, 18 Dec 2008
By C. Menon (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Granpa (Paperback)

I bought this after seeing it recommended as a modern children's classic, which it most certainly is. It is a very touching book that helps a parent deal with the sensitive issue of bereavement. It stimulates a 2-way conversation between adult and child about the subject of love and loss, which is not something that can be hidden, even from a child.

My four year old got a lot out of it, as did I.

3.0 out of 5 stars Granpa, 26 May 2009
This review is from: Granpa (Paperback)
We ordered this book at the recommendation of other reviews but found it a little odd in its message. It tells of fun days withn "Granpa" and then suddenly he's not there - no explanation. Beautifully illustrated.
